Washington, DC—The Task Force on American Innovation,a coalition of businesses, trade groups, scientific and engineering societies, and university organizations which supportsfederally-funded scientific research, today issued the following statementas the Senate is considering the CHIPS + Act that invests in innovation in fundamental technology, semiconductors, and also reauthorizes key federal research agencies:

“We applaud the United States Senate for taking up bipartisan legislation that will help the United States maintain its global leadership in research and innovation for economic growth, and national security. The bill funds critical investments in U.S. semiconductor capability and, importantly, it reauthorizes the National Science Foundation, the Department of Energy’s Office of Science, NIST, and NASA and sets a pathway for increased federal investments in scientific research. We urge Congressional leaders to finish this important bill before departing for the August recess. The innovation enterprise in America is essential to the economic future of our country. Competitor countries like China are not waiting, and neither can we.”
