Text of the statement:

Washington, DC— The Task Force on American Innovation (TFAI), a coalition of companies, university associations, and professional societies that supports sustained and robust federal investment in scientific research, today released the following statement from Executive Director Stewart Young on the passage of the Fiscal Year 2017 (FY17) omnibus to fund the government through September:

“TFAI appreciates Congress’ hard work on the completion of the FY17 appropriations process, and is encouraged by the bipartisan agreement on funding crucial programs in basic research. We look forward to working toward the timely completion of the FY18 appropriations process. TFAI has long sought sustained, robust increases for federal investments in scientific and technological research. For the United States to remain a global innovation leader, we must renew our commitment to scientific research investments, as they are critical to job creation and national security. Now is the time for Congress to fully and consistently fund these vital investments now and for the future.”
