Task Force on American Innovation Praises Budget Deal

Urges Congress to make science investment the “highest priority”

Washington, DC— The Task Force on American Innovation (TFAI) today issued the following statement on the bipartisan budget deal:

“The Task Force on American Innovation applauds the bipartisan budget deal announced today that raises sequestration level budget caps on both defense and non-defense programs and urges Congress to act swiftly to pass it. Once passed, TFAI members across the business, science and engineering, and academic communities strongly encourage Congress to ensure that the final FY 2018 appropriations give the highest priority to investments in science and technology accounts at DOD; and science and engineering research at the Department of Energy, NASA, the National Institutes of Standards and Technology, and the National Science Foundation. America’s global science and technology leadership is being tested, and a renewed commitment to innovation is urgently needed. This agreement is a step in the right direction if additional funding is allocated to science and engineering investments that strengthen American competitiveness.”
